Under the Bridge

Praise for Under the Bridge

"[A] stirring novel ... Filled with impressively lifelike characters, McKenzie's narrative is compelling from its sobering start to its resonant finish." ~ Publisher's Weekly

Synopsis

Ten-year-old Ritchie's life is pretty ordinary—until his mother is taken away in the middle of the night and no one will tell him where she's gone. Then his little sister, Rosie, gets sick and Ritchie thinks nothing will make her better. But a mysterious letter, addressed to Miss Rosemary Willis, arrives in the mail, and that letter is what makes all the difference in the world.

Under the Bridge was published in 1994 by Henry Holt and Co. and again in 1996 by Harper Trophy. The Jacket illustration is by Mary Teichman with design by Christy Hale in the 1994 edition (plane and window). The jacket illustration is by Wayne McLoughlin in the 1996 edition (boy on bridge).

Under the Bridge is a story about siblings and family with little to do with magic and a lot to do with questions and a man in the community reaching out for the two children. It's a little older and sadder than the other books, but it's still beautiful.
